Hi, I love your blog about Turkish coffee. I enjoy drinking Turkish coffee every now and then with my friends. I was wondering if I can share "the meaning of symbols" with a good friend of mine just for the fun of it, if it’s alright with you. Thanks.

Azita

I've been reading tea leaves for a long time but never coffee - it sounds intriguing!

Does the placement in the cup influence refer to when something will occur (closer to the rim means it will come into your life sooner)?

cbros said...

Dear Lucy,
Reading coffee cup is a very old tradition. Hope you enjoy it...

Starting from the cup's handle, imagine a horizontal line and a vertical line. So, you'll have four different imaginary areas in the cup.

The symbols staying over the imaginary horizontal line are interpreted as things that will happen in the short-run. The symbols, which are below the line, are believed to happen in the long-run.

You can read all details about coffee cup reading from my other post:

http://turkishcoffeehouse.blogspot.com/2008/12/fortune-telling-with-turkish-coffee.html

Please don't hesitate to ask if this explanation doesn't work. Keep reading fincan :)

I saw my fathers face in my Turkish coffee cup. The thing is that my father passed away a few years ago and this has never happened to me before, to see his face clearly in my coffee cup.I just wanted to know what you thought about this and what you think it means.

cbros said...

Emira,

It's really hard to tell anything without looking at your cup. In Turkish coffee fortune-telling, other figures appeared in the cup are also important to say something about a specific figure. For instance, the meaning is completely different if you see a bird near to your father's face or a butterfly.

But, in general, I can say that seeing face of father who just passed away has a positive meaning for the family members, especially for you and your mother if she's alive.

I love your blog. My mom reads coffee grinds as well I am Serbian. She says that a worm means sickness and I was wondering what a cross means. She says it means death or religion. I made a wish at the bottom about my health and sickness showed up as well as a cross. I have a dental appointment on Friday and my tooth is loose could this be what I am thinking about. Many thanks. Please help I would like to know your output. Many thanks love your site Mahir..

cbros said...

Sorry, but a cross means that a lie coming from you but said reluctantly will hurt you lately.

If there's a wish about your health and you saw a cross there, it may mean you'll have to say a lie about your health to your family or your close friends. Be careful about health issues.

Hope it helps...

cbros said...

Elephant means you'll make progress with support of rich and/or powerful people who are around you.

cbros said...

Hi lillady09,
A scorpion and a dog indicates that
you should believe trust and fidelity of the person whom you love...

Hello,
My aunt used to read for me but she passed in 2001. On Christmas Eve, we had Turkish coffee at my brothers house and for fun, I turned my cup over to dry for old time sake and found an image of a dinosaur. Since I never had one show up when my aunt used to read for me, I am curious as to what it might mean. Can you tell me?

cbros said...

Hello Angie,
Sorry for your loss...

A dinosaur can have different meanings. Generally, it has negative meanings such as being tired or getting older. However, it may have a positive meaning. Tough I didn't actually see your cup; in your case I can say that it may indicate that you'll receive news from very old days. The news'll be something that will make you really happy.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Thank you! I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post to my blog?

cbros said...

Thank you! Yes, of course you can. The aim of this blog is to share information... I appreciate if you don't copy+paste the post completely and give credit to me and my blog.

Hi, this is a great blog. I love it! I just recently got into the whole Turkish coffee fortune-telling. I was wondering if you knew what the symbolism behind a large man, almost monster like sasquatch was. Weird I know, but I can't find that symbol anywere. Thank you! :)

Anonymous said...

Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!

Anonymous said...

does a burned out candle mean..?

cbros said...

Hi Tamara,

Thank you for your comment.
A monster normally means that there people around you with negative feelings against you. You have to be careful... As the monster is behind a large man, it may mean you will be protected by a man who loves you deeply.

Hope this explanation helps you. :)

cbros said...

Thank you! I'm trying to be more creative day by day! :)

cbros said...

A candle means that you will reach your desires only after long time. However, if the candle is burned out, the meaning can be different. Actually, I should see the cup. But I can roughly say if it is totally burned out, then it means you lost your chance to reach your desires. If not, you are close to your desires.

hello mahir
i was wondering what could a waterfall mean in turkish cofee, while one person in black is standing below it and to peolple in white are satanding bisde it while facing it?

lida azizi said...

i had coffee today and saw a lama in my coffee I was wondering what that means, I also saw a person praying can you tell me what they mean. thank you lida

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Coffee reading is done after having the coffee.

Mainly, it is based on images that are appeared inside the coffee cup. Of course, it is also based on reader's sense...

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Hi Mo,

Generally a waterfall means that the life will be fulfilled with successes. Person in black symbolizez your partner who is supporting you fully. Other people who are in white are your close friends and relatives who will also support you.

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Hi Lida,

Seeing a lama may mean that you will have deep trust to someone who is close to you but you are not aware of him/her.

A praying person is related with something good that you will experience. But, if the praying person is a woman and there is also a cross, it may have a negative meaning.

Anonymous said...

Hi,

My mother does coffee cup readings but some of the symbols according to her and a few other people I know mean different things. For example, scissors, particularly open ones, means that something is opening up, something good is about to happen. Also, according to the people I know, a key means that something will come to fruition.

My question is, is there only one way of interpreting symbols and we are simply doing some things wrong? Or does it depend on the reader?

And my last question pertains to reading one's own cup. Some people have told me that it's bad luck to read one's own cup. But I read everywhere online that it's ok. I am simply curious.

Thank you!

Hi , can you tell me what a Lion with a sword next to a image like a devil with ( horns) and letters F around it means? This is all on the left side of my coffee cup!

Anonymous said...

hi, please help me understand. i am about to get married & have lots of problems..I saw 2 people wearing white dress & a white tuxedo almost like dancing; however, when i opened "the heart" of the bottom of the cup - i opened a face of a devil (in white). but it was a such a scary face looking at me that i almost cried..please tell me what that is..thank you!

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

As I mentioned many times, it's really hard to make a comment without seeing the actual cup. But, I can say that having a bride and a groom together is a sign that all of your dreams are going to come true. On the other hand, seeing a devil object in that scene means someone who is very close to you or your partner is against this marriage and working to separate you. As devil is in white; probably she/he is a bridesmaid or bestman.

Anonymous said...

Hello ; I wanted to see if you could tell me anything about my comment on June 14th. Thank you

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Hi, sorry for missing your comment on June 14.

It's a nice and interesting scene to read.

A lion with sword and a devil with horn means that you will overcome major problems in your life soon. The problems will be hunted one by one.

The letter F may indicate many things. If your name or surname starts with F, then it means you will solve your problems alone. If not, you should be careful against people whose name start with F. They may be helpful or contrary be harmful during the process of overcoming your problems.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with my recent dream and coffee grinds. I have had a dream a few days ago about bathing some unknown couple's quintuplets (5 new - born babies) and then yesterday I looked at my turkish coffee cup and clearly saw number 5 "staring" at me. What could this mean? I feel this number has some significance for me. Please help. Thanks!!!

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Hi Wadad,

You can send photos of your cup to be read to me. My email is mahir (at) turkishcoffeeblog (dot)com

A baby in your cup means you will be regret. But, if it was only in your dream then it may have a good meaning.

Seeing a number in your coffee cup may mean you'll be lucky in coming days. It's hard to say somethig without seeing other symbols in the cup.

Dear Alma and Para-

Yes I do reading. I live in Turkey :) If you're not here, then the thing is you can send me your cups' photos. Hope it helps.

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Hi Lida,

That big bunny may mean many things depending on its size, shape, and the things around it. However, generally it means there's a person who is close to you and gives you negative energy & sadness.

Turkish Coffee Blog said...

Generally, seeing a tower in your cup means that you'll be in a bad situation because of your wrong behaviors. However, a specific tower, such as Eiffel Tower, can mean many things depending on surroundings. So, it's hard to make a comment without seeing the actual cup.

I am going through a very difficult time and have to make life altering decisions, was wondering if your coffee fortune telling could be done for another person from a far.
In other words I guess I am asking if you could do a private reading for me, and of course I will be more than happy to pay for your time and help.
